Impetus Oil is a new company with old foundations. A pioneer in the field of plastic pyrolysis, Impetus is involved in the production and distribution of quality fuels derived using the Plastic Pyrolysis Process. Our mission is to become a leader in the field of biofuels whilst simultaneously reducing hitherto non-recyclable plastic waste. Impetus Oil deploys a leading edge patent-pending, continuous de-polymerization process which converts waste plastics into petroleum fuels similar to diesel and gasoline. It uses a multi-staged thermal process to molecularly crack and re-arrange longer-chain hydrocarbons found in plastics to shorter-chain hydrocarbons found in petroleum fuels. This operation results in the highly efficient and effective conversion of end of life plastics into useable liquid fuels.
Using our in-house proprietary processes, suitable end of life plastics are pre-processed to reduce size & remove any contaminants or non-plastic materials from the feedstock at the first stage. This is then shredded and loaded via a hot melt in-feed system directly into main pyrolysis chambers. Agitation commences to regulate the temperature and homogenise the feedstock. Pyrolysis then commences and the plastic becomes a vapour. Non-plastic materials fall to the bottom of the chamber. The vapour from the chambers passes into the contactor which knocks back the long chained carbons and allows the required condensable vapours to pass into the distillation column. The pyrolysis is conducted in the primary chamber, which performs the essential functions of homogenisation and controlled decomposition in a single process.

Produced pyrolysis oil has calorific value (energy content) of 10,000 to 10,800Kcal/kg. Refined pyrolysis oil has calorific value equivalent to diesel. In terms of the byproducts, carbon black can be used as fuel in boilers / furnaces / cement plants. It can be used as raw material for manufacturing carbon nano-tubes & activated carbon. Pyrolysis gas is used as fuel to heat the plastic to oil reactor. Excess gas can be used for production of petrochemicals or electricity.
